Member Spotlight: Whitney Popa of Popa & Associates

One of our goals at Workhorse is to build community within Edmonds, and that starts with our members getting to know each other. So begins a new monthly series of Member Spotlights, where we’ll tell you a little bit about each other. Use these to say hi and start a conversation—you never know where you’ll find your next business partner, friend, or neighbor!

We’ll start this series with our first member, who also happens to support the day-to-day marketing and operations of WHHQ. Whitney Popa opened Popa & Associates, a social media and public relations consultancy, in 2017 while pregnant with her first child. After spending more than ten years working for companies of all sizes in the Seattle area (including big dogs like Microsoft, Amazon, and Nordstrom), Whitney wanted a longer leash. She knew she had built a strong network, but didn’t know where to begin finding clients. Her first big client, Sur La Table, came to her through a friend of a friend before she’d created an LLC. It felt like kismet, so she Googled how to start a business in Washington state and gave birth to two babies a few months later—a human AND a communications firm.

Whitney has found her niche in helping little businesses with big dreams get more exposure—whether it’s a resort on San Juan Island, a local architect, a chic baby carrier, or something that has yet to be dreamed up, as long as it has a fun story to tell, Whitney is eager to get it in front of as many eyeballs as she can. You’ll see her around the space multiple days a week, making coffee and typing away on her laptop.

An avid reader, Whitney sets a yearly book goal each January. She’s a big supporter of small businesses and is often seen riding her cruiser bike to many of them in downtown Edmonds. She and her husband, Raz, are self-proclaimed foodies and love to try new places, as well as recipes. Ask her for her Edmonds lunch recs. Eager for adventure, Whitney and Raz load up their two small kids (Oliver, 3, and Bianca, 1) and explore as much as they can. A Utah RV park trip and slow drive to Banff are currently in the works.
